Independent, professional evaluation of investment managers and funds provides the foundation of most of our consulting relationships. A fundamental premise of performance evaluation is comparison to other funds. Many consulting firms limit their data base comparisons to clients of their own firm only. Our viewpoint is that very large data bases of fund performance are essential to the evaluation process.
Becker, Burke is a founding member of the Independent Consultants
Cooperative, a group of 17 consulting firms that together with a division
of State Street Bank, pool data to produce data bases for comparative
investment performance analysis. This approach to building investment
performance comparisons takes advantage of the resources and technology
that now exist in our industry. Our
data base is the largest and most sophisticated analytical universe
in this business. Using this resource will eliminate any uncertainty
you might have about the performance of your assets and managers.
As of 12/31/03 our data base contained 18,067 portfolios and
$1.52 trillion in assets. All data in our evaluations are developed
directly from statements provided by custodians. We do not rely on
performance data from investment managers to prepare reports. The
assets in our data base are managed by nearly 1,200 different investment
management organizations supervising assets within 12 primary asset
categories.
