Evaluation of Trading Costs

Trading costs have two parts: commissions and market impact (execution). We develop a commission tracking system for you as a part of the performance evaluation reporting process by asking each manager to provide a summary of commission costs on brokers utilized. This normally satisfies the commission evaluation needs of our clients.

If you require measurement of execution costs for your separately managed domestic equity portfolios, there are outside service providers that offer this service. We will work with their data to analyze and interpret it for you. A standard methodology utilized measures the manager's execution cost by comparing his trades to the volume weighted average of the day and then to a broad background of other institutional trades.
